Project Title: Hands that Build – A Black History Month Special
Role: Art Direction, Motion Design, and Graphics
Project Overview
As Art Director for Hands that Build, I developed the visual identity for a Black History Month special honoring African American workers and trailblazers whose labor, skill, and vision helped shape future generations.
To give the piece a more grounded and reflective tone, I intentionally moved away from the traditional red, black, and green palette often associated with Black History Month packages. Instead, I built the visual language around warm browns and neutrals inspired by earth, craftsmanship, heritage, and legacy. This palette helped create a richer, more cinematic mood that supported the storytelling and gave the special a distinctive editorial feel.
The design approach blended poetry, texture, and modern typography with historical resonance. A spoken-word performance served as a central visual and emotional element, paired with layered on-screen text and an elegant lower-third treatment that reinforced the tone of the piece.

Design Intent
The goal was to create a visual experience that felt thoughtful, elevated, and rooted in legacy. The warm brown palette was chosen to evoke permanence, history, craftsmanship, and the hands that build both communities and futures. This approach allowed the special to stand apart from more traditional packages while remaining deeply connected to the subject matter.
Outcome
The final piece delivered a polished and emotionally resonant visual identity that supported the special’s message of resilience, creativity, and contribution. The package was well received for its thoughtful storytelling, distinctive design language, and cinematic tone.
